Have a good think before putting an m51 in an e30. Its really not a great engine, low on power, high on fuel consumption. Its really no better than one of the petrol M5x series engines, with less power.

If you are going to the effort, then put something in worth doing. If you must have an oil burner then I would suggest the 3.0d engine would be much more worthwhile, and not much more difficult, it may cost a little more though. Sump is the big issue with the 3.0d.

With the M51 you can run it on veg oil :D

I chipped my E34 525tds to 170bhp which made it a lot nicer.

^^ I'll grant you that it will run on veg oil, but I don't know if you've been to a petrol shop recently, derv is the same price as veg oil at the minute. I've run vehicles on veg but I'm not into straining bits of deep fried mars bar and chicken out of the stinking slime :o

The fuel I use is 41p per litre, I don't have to mess with nasty old chip oil and it doesn't stink to hell or sound like a tractor :D
