coolant tank cap

Hi all,i have recently had to change my coolant tank cap as the old one went brittle and fell apart in my hand, anyway i don`t know if its a coincidence but iv`e started to lose coolant,the new cap is rated at 140 has anyone got any thoughts on this,the car is a`89 320i,thanks,Ian.

Probably the old one wasn't holding pressure, and now that the system is operating at the correct pressure, it has uncovered an existing leak.
