Okay so basically the bonnet would pop up before i removed everything and now it won't.

Is it the hinge that pops it up or the latch? I can see two rods going through the hinge with hooks on the end, are these anything todo with it?

Just to be clear the bonnet will open fine just not pop up like it should.

Hello ashje,

realoem link to bonnet and hinge diagram, could be part no's 14, 15 may be broken/lost tension or 2 plastic bushes at hinge pivot point seizing due to some surface rust, cheers.

Thanks for the reply, those two tension rods are what i'm referring too.

Where do the ends go because they do not seam to be producing any tension when the bonnet is closed.

according to real oem there should be 2 of them, both with different part numbers, there is a similar setup on your boot lid if you look under your parcel tray in the boot, the principle is the same, they counter weight the boot lid with tension.

So maybe check out a mates e30 bonnet or one at a wrecker that works to check out what is going on with yours or buy a second hand one that works, cheers.
