Last night I struggled to get my 86' 325i started... turning over but not firing into action straight away...after 3 or 4 tries it fired up but there was a "pop" sound from under the bonnet...drove fine...

Today nothing...turning over but no matter how many times I tried during the course of the day it did not fire into action...

Any help and advice appreciated...thanks :D

You'll have to narrow it down a bit further than that!
Sparks at plugs?
Fuel pressure in rail?
Fuel pump running when cranking?
Plug tips wet after cranking?

I've had a similar issue and turn out to be a faulty fuel pump. Fuel pump is under the rear seats on the driver's side.

Don't know when i will get a chance to check the list Brian gave me...

However, does the fact that when I tried this morning it fired up narrow down the possible problem...?

@ E30M3EVO... that was my initial thought...

FYI

Ended up sending it in to get a diagnostic read out...all ok...except the ignition coil so that is being replaced and will hopefully be ok...
