Well.....
As I started to remove parts to drop tank for welding arches, rear brake lines, bushes etc etc... Beginning with the exhaust, rear box and centre section no issues... Then I tackled the front pipe..that finishes at the manifold... Ah!

It was well oiled (several times )pior to starting . two nuts wound off the studs lovely the other two have snapped leaving a nut on the stud and stud has lots of tread.

They have snapped back from the treads as the nut didn't move.

Access is good from underneath (I'm on jack stands ) was thinking maybe drill out and nut and bolt it or JB weld the stud on after winding the old nut off the stud (take to work and glow with oxy)
Is this the correct approach or bodge? Any thoughts welcomed

It's s 318is m42 and it looks like a pain to have to make the manifold off...

Prob hear loads from me as the other parts coming off I've never done before!!

Ta.....

Similar problem for me. My studs were spot welded into the manifold and I had to remove the manifold to remove them, clean it up and weld new ones in.

It's a bit of hassle and some time but the manifold can be taken off with the engine fitted.

I thought the iS had a separate plate above the manifold flange, carrying the four studs?
Common bodge for these, when one of the studs breaks, is to push the whole plate and remaining studs up the pipe and out of the way, and to use four ordinary nuts and bolts to secure the exhaust to the manifold.

Ok, so can these be tapped out with a hammer or punch?

Or are they welded at the top?

It's item no 2 on this link if its any clearer than my ramshackle tale of woe ....
