m20 325i idle problems ?

had an old mate round today with his 2dr 325i that he's owned for over 15 yrs, he wanted to check an L shaped icv i had on his car to see if this cured his cold start and tick over problems .

well we checked both the ones i have here and when they are plugged in his car revs up and down on it's own.

with his own icv in place and un plugged the car is good on tick over when up to temp and shit when cold .

he has a recent intake boot fitted and also a nice new looking AFM.

i've told him to remove the inlet and check every vaccum hose but i have a feeling many of you lads have had these same issues,so how did you solve it . ?
