Burning smell, Battery drain

The car has suddenly started producing a burning electrical smell and the battery drains and loses all power.

Jump leads and re connects within a minute.

I cant figure out where the smell is coming from and nothing has changed been changed electrically lately. However I Did harsh brake where the ABS locked, the other day when some numpty was about hit my car. Could this have caused a disruption somewhere.

put a charge test on it see if alternator is ok

The battery needs replacing and the alternator seem fine.

The burning smell is present, now the stereo wont come on and holds no charge after 2 minutes after switching the engine off.

I have checked the wiring for the stereo and that seems fine too.
