Can anybody tell me if the instrument cluster dash pod is the same for a six pot and a four pot or are they specific?

The difference between six and four pot clusters, as far as the number of cylinders is concerned is taken care of by the white coding plug pushed into the lower right corner of the front of the cluster, which is easily changed over.
A more important difference between clusters is related to the size of the fuel tank of the car that it came from. The fuel gauges in the cluster are different.
Another small difference is that six pot clusters have a 'check' light in the middle, which is blanked off by a (easily swappable) piece of plain plastic on four pot clusters.
