Oil pressure light on dash...

Worrying moment when you see this light out the corner of your eye!!!

Am I right in thinking this light is either off or on???
Or is there some way it could flicker faintly at the first slight loss of pressure???

When driving in the dark last night, I noticed mine flicker on very slightly and occasionally noticed it very faintly lit!!!
(It comes on fully lit with just ignition, as usual)

As the temp gauge now sometimes needs a little tap before it works, I'm praying this is just an electrical prob???
Dodgy earth on the dash, or a serious engine problem brewing???
(Oil level is fine but no way to test the pressure!!!)

Is it just at idle when it's happening or when you're giving it some?

Oil pressure light is a very simple circuit, with very little possibility of problems at the cluster end.
Before you start searching for a new engine, failure of the switch itself isn't uncommon, and the insulation on the wire, where it goes around the front of the engine (M20 only), goes brittle with heat, and can lead to shorts to the metal work turning the light on.

Was fine tonight, but instinct tells me it's electrical!!!

The light didn't come on at all at idle - wasn't giving it the beans (especially with the pressure light starting to glow), but was cruising and driving fairly gently!!!
