Advised my Insurers a couple of weeks back of change of car and told them it had an alarm and immobiliser fitted but didnt have details. they confirmed this was ok.

Got the documents through and they had endorsed the policy to say that theft cover only applied if a Thatcham approved security device was fitted! which I had'ne even mentioned.

Appreciate its boring stuff but shows it pays to check the details, sneaky Ba%^$rds!!

Dodgy. I'd get in touch and play bloody-hell if I were you, but then, don't get me started on insurance, it's a cartel.

Who's it with?

This is standard stuff mate, the car you are insuring obviously must have a minimum of a cat 2 device fitted. You have advised them of this when getting a quote, although you have been honest and said you do not know what device is fitted, let alone if it is cat 2 approved or not.

What your insurers have done is put in place a theft restriction clause, meaning that until you can prove to them that it has a cat 2 device fitted, they will not indemnify you if you were to make a theft claim.

Usually alarms & immobailisers will come with some paperwork to confirm the make & model and most importantly a certificate of installation to prove the device was properly fitted and therefore works.

Phone your insurers and ask what the best thing to do is. They may be happy for you to take it to an approved garage where you can demonstrate that the security device is fitted and that it works. But more than likely if you can't come up with the piece of paper to show who installed it and when, you may have to shell for a new device or change to an insurer who does not state a minimum of a cat 2 device being fitted, but I think you will find that is a minimum requirement for the type of vehicle.

Hope that lot helps!
