I have recently installed a supercharger on my m52, a Dinan kit made around 1999. The kit came with a small box that controls the MAF called 'turbotronics 9'.

Image
(On the Dinan unit)
Yellow- Goes to yellow towards the MAF (consistent with yellow at MAF)
Black- Goes to brown/orange (consistent with brown at MAF)
White- Goes to yellow towards ECU plug
Red- Goes to thick green wire in main loom

The problem Im having is that I have damaged a couple of MAF's so the engine is running without any air metering. Not exactly ideal with forced induction! When I plugged in a new meter the engine bogged down for a second (as it should) but eventually it stop working. A diagnostics scan reveals a fault code for the AFM.

My question is what does this turbotronics do and do I have to run it?

Turned out to be dodgy plug/pins on the turbotronics unit. It disconnects the MAF when its not connected right.
