How much oil is needed to do this. I got a litre of castrol for it, but is it one of those annoying things that needs 1.15l? So you need to buy another bottle to top it up.
Cheers

IIRC, a 4HP22 box will take just under 5 litres on a service. Needs to be ATF DEXTRON 2/3.

What is up with this poxy wiki page
http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/index.php/Oil
.. First the issue with the racing oil.. now it says this
"You need an MTF for the gearbox ... You will need 1.15L for the most popular gearbox, the Getrag 240, or 1.25L for the bigger Getrag 260 found on the 325i. ... For automatic gearboxes use Castrol Dexron III."
It says 1.25 litres but I'm guessing thats with manual gearboxes. There's no mention of an amount of autos.
I'm guessing it's completely wrong again then Trev

Wiki clearly states that an auto box needs Dextron II/III, but admittedly doesn't state quantity: "You need an MTF for the gearbox ......... You will need 1.15L for the most popular gearbox, the Getrag 240, or 1.25L for the bigger Getrag 260 found on the 325i.

Part of the reason for this could be that you can't easily drain an auto box completely - a good proportion of the oil will remain in the torque converter, so to do the job properly more than one change will be required, some time apart.
Handbook that came with your car states 3 litres are required.
Note that ATF can also be used in a manual box. It's usually used as a quick cure for boxes with a stiff gear change when cold.

Thanks Brian. Is it a case of draining it... filling with 1-2 litres.. a week later you drain again, and repeat process? Is a filter change neccesary?
