reconditioning my old rack

I have put in a second hand power steering rack as the recon one I bought started leaking about 20 minutes after the one year warranty ran out. I have seen some articles about reconning your own rack. I might try rebuilding the one I pulled out and keeping it as a spare. Has any one tried this and had success?
