Scuttle rust issues

It's where a large blob of sealant behind the panel has shrunk and detached itself, leaving bare metal exposed, which rusts through in time.
Chop out all the rusted area (which probably isn't much over about 40mm in diameter) and MIG weld a plate in, followed by a skim of filler and paint. Paint the reverse side as well, through the hole where the grill in the scuttle fits.

Thankyou very much for your reply. Your absolutely spot on with your explanation. It's right in the corner and behind it there is a mastic type sealant. It's easy to chop out and get a plate welded in. Job for winter along with rear arches, lower doors and a new d/s front wing. Then it's bodywork compete and on to the new roof that's needed.
