Does anyone know if the 6 speed gearbox from an e36 M3 will fit a 2.5 M50 engine from a single Vanos 325i e36??

I have tried the gearbox splines and the diameter/splines are OK meaning the clutch plate will mate.

Is the bolt pattern the same? Will the two mate?

Many thanks in advance....

It will bolt directly to the back of an M50 block. The bolt pattern is the same. You may have to do a mix 'n' match on clutch components to get it all working properly, but the basic bolt together side of things will be fine.

As above though. Why do you want 6 gears ?

Ian.

As Ian states the 6speed fits and you can allways run a cluch and flywheel from the car the gearbox came from :)

The 6speed is 10kg heavier than the 5speed ... but there is allways the cool factor of having 6 gears

Time to confess..

A good friend of mine has an e36 325i and has modified it here and there. At the moment he has just fit e36 M3 evo running gear and LSD (his diff blew up prompting this all) and propshafts from the 325, a 3.2 evo with paddle box and a 3 litre M3.

All propdhafts now don't fit with the std gearbox, the 3 litre and 2.5 being too short. His local scrapyard have a 6 speed M3 unit and he'd like to know if he can fit the gearbox and use the 3 litre or 3.2 evo paddle propshaft..

Does anyone know which clutch components he should use?

Many thanks for your help so far and thanks for any coming our way.

(I know e36's are the devils work but he's a good guy and he'd have an e30 M3 in a heartbeat..Does that count? :D )

Cheaper and much less hassle

Don't.. just don't..

I said that too - Just take the two props off to a lorry place that'll do PTO props..

Never mind.
