Hi all, I'm starting the task of re-locating my battery from under the bonnet to the boot. I have all the necessary parts but I've never studied the location of several parts.
I'd be very grateful if someone could send or upload some pics showing the following :
1.The exact location of the positive terminal mounting on the bulkhead and where the positive cable emerges from the inner wing into the engine bay.
2.Also where does the + cable emerge into the battery compartment in the boot.
Thanks in advance,
Iain T

I hope these help Iain, just took these now, if you want some closer shots, I did a few more...

I've also moved this to the Tech section...better suited to there?

Simon, Thanks matey that's exactly what I needed to see.
I'd half figured the boot section out but it looks like I'll have to drill out the inner wing by the bulkhead to fit the rubber grommet for the + cable
.
Another thing that you may be able to help me with is this, there are 2 + cables one thick (starter power obviously) and a thin cable. What does this thinner cable power ?.
Cheers

Not a lot really, the wife is putting the squeeze on my modding budgettopspark wrote:Iain ,

Really wanted to get this battery mod finished though, with my strut brace fitted the new 85Ah battery won't fit past it into the battery tray. Hence the relocation to the boot 325i stylee.

Oh , thought there might be something a bit tricky going on , How is the motor since you put on the new ign leads ? Does it make a difference?

I would not worry about the holes that dont need drilling at the front, you need to work out what your going to do for the earth.
(you just need to punch the already cut peice of metal out of the side of the battery tray)

In the boot battery compartment there is an 8mm nut holding the bumper mounting on, I'll use that or if it's too far away I'll drill a hole in the lip of the battery compartment.Demlotcrew wrote:I would not worry about the holes that dont need drilling at the front, you need to work out what your going to do for the earth.

'(you just need to punch the already cut peice of metal out of the side of the battery tray)' So the body has a knockout ready for this ?.

Yes the leads did make a big difference (easier starting and more responsiveness, maybe even a little more power/torque), but my original leads were well shagged so I don't know if they are any better than new standard leadstopspark wrote:Oh , thought there might be something a bit tricky going on , How is the motor since you put on the new ign leads ? If nobody has answered this by tomorrow, I shall go and take a look, I've got no power in the garage this car is parked in!Templ8e30 wrote:

I dont think it powers anything, most of the power will come from the main cable.

Looking at Simon's underbonnet pic it looks like the thin cable feeds the engine loom. Can't really tell though.
It would make sense as the thin cable has a soldered in 50A fuse at the battery end.
Cheers,
