Hello forum...is it easy to repair a defective front door lock?
The central locking works...just not when you use the "main" door.
Any help would be appreciated...

The drivers lock barrel has a lever and a spring on the end which wears over time and stops the 'lock' signal on that door.AndersLS wrote:Hello forum...is it easy to repair a defective front door lock?

A rebuild kit is available from the dealer for about Ԛ£18, it consists of all the component parts and a bag of coding pins for coding the lock to accept your original keys thus saving you from having to carry a different key for that lock only.
The BMW part number for a right hand drive e30 is 51219061344.

Or if you're a skinflint like me, you can bend the forks from the door lock slightly, so that they contact an unworn part of the alloy arm, and bend the lever of the deadlock microswitch slightly as well.

To overcome this, I fitted a remote central locking kit from ebay. I bought one from Germany and paid 43 euros including postage. It works a treat and is really simple to install.
The instructions are in German, but are easy to translate (I'd be willing to do this for you as I've just done mine). Then follow the instructions on here for the e30 loom! eg fit it behind the glovebox, not in the a pillar as the booklet says!
I tried Brian's tip, but the linkages had been tinkered with and I have no door pins, so my deadlock switch is now my "lock myself in" switch.
