Hi chaps :D

I'm trying to sort the alarm / central locking out on the Mrs's compact. It's a V reg 318ti sport, build date 09/1999.
It's got a 3 button key, like this:

Problem 1:
I have two keys that work on the locks and start the car fine but only one will operate remotely. The 'dead' one does have a new battery and the light does work so i guess it's just needing to be paired/coded to the car somehow. So far my efforts are to no avail, but maybe this is related to........

Problem 2:
The alarm will sometimes randomly set itself off. I'm pretty sure it's related to the interior light as this will often turn itself on. Seems a likely coincidence? Failed/failing door switches maybe? This could also mess up the sequencing of the key coding.

Now the fun starts, there seems to be frickin loads of different alarm types on these. From this guide here: http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/f74 ... ws-t39173/ It seems i have a "National Version" alarm system, which seems to be a piggyback system tagged onto the remote central locking system. The only thing that doesn't add up from the description on the link above is that it doesn't have an alarm LED anywhere, but this is a compact, maybe there wasn't space!

So does anyone have any experience of these things?

Going by the key you have factory dwa.3g 3t and 2t were dealer retrofit and have separate remotes. Have you tried initialising the keys?

I've had a go but with no real success, maybe down to the door switch issue messing with the sequence etc.
