So I've had an e30 converted to M30 for around 3 years now and the engine has had it. The one I have fitted is from a 91 535i but I've got a good offer on a 735 engine. I'm sure it's not an easy straight swap as the 735i is an automatic but is there a wiki on here explaining what has to be done to convert the 7 series version? Or should I look for another 5 series engine?

Hi,

Its the same engine mate but you just need to re-use your 535 manual wiring engine loom and also your TPS from the manual car.

Of course, re-use the fly, clutch and GB etc etc

If you have any old spares, I'd appreciate an AFM ??

Thanks

Jim

Reusing the loom do I have to splice wires and that mate I knew about swapping the fly wheel. I was reading some info on the wiki and the bhp was slightly different if I was reading it right.

no, just take it off and put it on the new engine

no change to bhp - an M30B35 is an M30B35

Work has gotten under way. I picked up the 735i engine and got her home. The first thing it needed was some striping and some much needed washing and de-greasing.

My plans our to clean up the Bottom end and paint it red and paint the Air intake manifold red as well. Im taking across some parts from my old engine the likes of the rocker cover which will need cleaned up a bit.

The car is in the air and getting prepped for the big six to come out and the new one to take its place.

As theres practically no room under the car to remove the gearbox separately so we dropped the exhaust in prep for pulling the whole thing out.

The next move is to remove the gearbox mounts on the support and remove the engine mounts from the chassis and we should be ready to raise her.

Sorry for the bad quality photos. More into the work than the photography :D

So I've put a new clutch in when the big lady has been pulled out but I have a slight leak from the gearbox. Where it meets the shaft. I tried to look through the wiki but it told me I don't have the permission to view it :? So does any one have the name for the seal or even better the part number?

Assuming you have a manual gearbox, it is probably the input shaft oil seal that needs replacing.

Its leaking at the back of the gearbox where the box joins the drive shaft. So I assumed it was the output shaft seal. Any ideas? And yes its the manual box.
