i've found an enclosed filter very similar to the following in a local store reduced to Ԛ£40...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DIAVOLO-Real-Carb ... dZViewItem
it's got a 70mm inlet bore. i guess it is but can anyone confirm that this is significantly smaller than the inlet bore for a M30B35? it would allow me a nice enclosed cold air feed and filter in a nice compact unit but i suspect it's simply to small for the 3.5
am i right?

so, the bore on the rubber hoses is likely to be near 70mm ish?
this might be a goer then...
this is the one that i've found. seems very similar to the BMC jobbie but i'm still not 100% convinced it'll flow enough for a 3.5... http://www.ripspeed.com/catalogue/pdf/P ... ilters.pdf

right, the dimensions are as follows: (all measured with a tape masure in the shop so not overly accurate!)
inlet pipe OD = Ø76mm
inlet pipe ID = Ø70mm
body diameter = Ø135mm
body length = 205mm
it looks like the cone filter inside is about Ø40mm / Ø130mm x 170mm long.
i'm not convinced that it's big enough...
any opinions? cheap enough to be worth having a go?

Just measured the inlet of the AFM with a digital vernier gauge and it's OD = 80mm, I would imagine that filter would be to small.
Hope this helps mate

so the AFM OD = tube id... there's only 4mm in it.
are all of the inlet hoses a similar size or does it get larger at the AFM to accomodate the rectangular inlet on the AFM withing a circle? (if you follow me?!)

what i'm thinking is:
standard AFM inlet bore (say Ø77mm?) has an area of 4657mmԚ².
the throttle body has a bore of say 65mm which is an area of 3319mmԚ².
the fully open AFM flap (scaled off the screen with a pen and your vernier at approx 45x60mm) has an area of 2700mmԚ². a known restriction.
this filter i've found has a Ø70 bore which is an area of 3849mmԚ².
when put that was it doesn't seem so bad! i was kinda thinking the hoses may be say Ø70mm at the throttble body but Ø80mm at the AFM to accomodate the AFM flap within a circle.
i'm confusing myself now!

I see what you're saying now, I take back what I said about the filter. I'd give it a go for Ԛ£40, have they got anymore or is it just the one?gareth wrote:what i'm thinking is:

i've bought one now! this one is Ԛ£40 as they've lost the aluminium cold air feed pipe from the box. however, i don't know if i'll need it and anyway, they have the pipes in also for about a fiver!
the fill kit should be in any branch of halfords for Ԛ£70.
i'll get some pics up when i get a chance...

any opinions. the cone does still seem a bit small for a 3.5 but there's only one way to find out!

Not sure about the air filter TBH, mine is about 150mm long and the same width wise at the thicker end.gareth wrote:piccies here: http://photobucket.com/albums/v382/gare ... onversion/
