a friend of mine is looking to sell his tech 2 sport its on a H I believe has about 170k on the clock is black and is in good condition with no damage or rot to speak off and has full leather.

no bits missing all original as a ball park figure what sort of money should he be looking for?

I know alot will say its worthless without pics but it looks just as a black sport should, not sure how much history it has and I'll try and find out and get some pics next time I go and see him.

so anyone care to throw there ball park figure in?

he's already been offered 3k for it but from what i've seen them sell for that's the sort of money for a ropey one that needs quite alot of work will sell for, this one is very clean and solid and I believe the paint is original too with the exception of a rust repair on the P/S front lower wing.

when the time comes this will be sold will a full ticket and no work needing to be done just buy it and drive it

best of luck finding a sport with no work needed for a grand mate not sure what cave you've been in but even a empty sport shell will fetch that sort of money these days, the leather in it is worth £500 alone!

personally I dont even see the mileage as being that high that works out as around 14k a year which is about average

Rot is not always visible and E30's are always hiding something, many have very nice exteriors and look great, start taking the parts off and could be a different story. 170k and no rot is a little difficult to believe without pictures. Not saying it doesn't happen, as some are maintained to very high standards but on average at that mileage they are nice and faded

So would you say with 110k miles in the same condition is worth £8k?

I didn't say it was worth £6500 I said advertise at £6500 and see what happens, I dont claim to know the true value on these hence why I made this thread.

One mans "no work needed" is another mans needs a couple of grand thrown at it.

And that's before you tackle the body issues. And there will be some.

Its currently owned by a BMW specialist such as yourself so it should be in fairly good order I'll get detailed shots and put them up over the next few days.

I've worked/work with plenty of people who work on BMW's for a living and they drive around in scrap.

The master tech with the vectra on 3 cylinders was one of the more comical ones.

If he is a 'specialist' why's he asking you for a valuation?

Just because someone is great at one aspect of the motor trade dont mean they are great at all of them.

Thats why there are varying job roles within this industry old boy

to be fair he didnt ask me for a valuation directly i just thought his current offer was too low

So how much has been offered ? It would want to be something VERY special to make 6.5k with 170 miles. Sounds more like 4.5k to me if it is half decent and tidy.

3k so far but that's without trying, just an offer from someone who spotted the car and asked if they would sell
mcbonio wrote:There is one on fleabay now matching your description for a whopping 11 grand.... dreamer.!
Your always gonna get dreamers but my logic of a advertised price of 6ish is that it will put off the muppet time wasters who think sports are worth 1-2k but still allows for genuine buyers to make reasonable offers. if he's really lucky he may manage to serve it for its full asking price

This is one of the most common misconceptions. Every time I hear "Owned by a specialist" Its some excuse to hide the fact the car is rubbish.

Most never really get the time for their own cars, as they are always taking care of someone else's car.

Actually, most aren't really that into cars to be honest. To most it's just a job.

Wasn't me dude. He purchased a solid wing from me not long back as the one on the sport was rusty.

I knew of the car before chip had it but not well enough to know how solid it was as it was.

I'd personally want to have a hunt for rust if I was potential customer.

Its really down to what someone's willing to pay. It will fluctuate greatly, waiting for the right buyer is key.

£4k is my guess. I think £3k is putting it a bit low for a hald decent non ragged sport. Subject to condition and pics possible more/ less

Even if they like working on cars and making them nice, it doesnt mean they will keep their own cars nice...
Without pictures to back it up, the statement is null and void
