I'd go for Gunk, brush and a hose pipe. Steam will travel in to things.

Whatever you do make sure that its running 100% before you start.

But with a hose you have less control over water distribution should I have the engine running while doing this. Just worried don't want to mess up electrics what parts to cover battery fuse box disstributor cap anything else?

The main risk is getting water into the injectors connector underneath the throttle body.

Well worth wrapping all the connectors in a protective film (e.g., cling film) before spraying anything about.

No need to have the engine running while doing it; in fact, best to do it with a cold engine else you risk cracking the exhaust manifold.
