Hi.
I have always wondered if the E30 have a factory immobilizer, or if it's an option dependant on model and how to identify?
I have a 325i and my owners manual mentions something about the secondary Key not being able to activate the Anti-theft.
Further reading on the web said there is some sort of magnetic part that only the master key can de-activate, and that the ECU goes into deadlock when doors are locked. I have no idea if any of this is true or not.
Thanks.
Do E30's have Factory Immobilizer or Security?

BMWs came with an option list. Go mad with the pen, ticking the boxes, and you could double the price of the car.
The immobiliser/alarm was an expensive option, comparable in price to a LSD, but many were specified. There were also a couple of BMW approved alarm/immobilisers that couldbe dealer fitted.
The magnetic alarm was a cab. thing.
The factory alarms only interrupted the ignition feed to the ECU and coil, so were hardly the last word in security. A piece of wire with croc. clips on each end connected between the battery + and the ignition coil + bypasses it in seconds.
