My car with an M10, which has a a Weber DGV carb on it decided today that it didn't want to live in a world of stop start traffic and therefore wouldn't idle or set off properly, and made the clutch impossible to use.
I can wind the idle control screw all the way out so that the throttle lever is not touching it, and it still idles away at about 1000rpm. Absolutely leaning out the idle fuel control screw is the only way to bring it back down below. Making it richer makes it run nicer but bumps up the revs even more.
If I floor the accelerator pedal and open up both barrels, then let off the car will either stall or idle very roughly at about 4-500rpm. It then starts to hunt, something that it shouldn't be able to do (it has no ICV or TPS, it's a carb), almost like the ignition advance is being played with.
When driving, setting off either results in a stall or kangarooing unless some intricate clutch work is involved, and acceletaring from closed throttle causes a kangaroo moment. But once it's past the inital stages of throttle opening, it drives fine.
I've taken the carb off and apart and all seems fine. So it leaves me wondering if there is either a vacuum leak (would explain the idle + fuel control dilemma), but all the pipes I've blanked are present and sealed, and the gaskets for the inlet manifold and carb seem alright; or somehow the ignition advance has a mind of its own, although it is vacuum controlled so how would that be? Another thing that has appear over the last month is the rev counter flickering and jumping at about 2k rpm. Whether or not that has anything to do with it I don't know.
Does anyone have an suggestions as to where to go next?
