I am sure a lot has been experimented with over the years trying different 15" tyre sizes. I was wondering what people consider to be the optimum for grip, predictability and overall balance (assuming the same make of tyre in all sizes).

I recently tried 205/55/15 which seem to give a slightly grippier front end than the previous 195/50/15 I tried (possibly due to the extra footprint on the tarmac), but I'm not sure if that was due to the age of the rubber. However the rear felt a lot smoother and predictable on the 195/50/15.

I've also seen people run 205/50/15.

What is considered the optimum on track for both road biased tyres (i.e. AD08's, T1R's etc) and semi-slicks (888's etc).

Thanks

I've been doing some more digging under slightly different search terms and found a few threads on the subject. For anybody else that's got a similar question I've linked the threads below:

Think I'm going to try 205/50/15 in road biased tyres and 195/50/15 in 888's as the 888's will not last as long and with the increased grip they give should not need the extra width to grip the tarmac. And the price difference for 195's over 205's is substantial (and more cost effective as they will wear quicker).

I just need to decide which road biased track tyres to go for. I wasn't over keen on the T1r's. I may try AD08's but will also look at what they use in the PBMW......

I'm looking at running Dunlop Dirreza 03G, supposed to be very good.

They seem pretty well priced as well (compared to 888's).

I went for a set of Federal 595 RS-R's in the end. Will be interesting to see what they're like....
