Door not locking

normally my doors would lock fine when i push the pin down on the drivers side door when its shut (this is the only way to lock my doors till i get a new lock set) this all worked fine and was used to doing it this awkward way, but ive recently changed the handle and pocket that opens the door from the inside and now after refitting the door card the pin wont push down anymore what could i have undone or bent to stop it working ?
