Well been on here a while now and I have managed to collect quite a few parts from the forum and friends.

My build starts here!

The donor vehicle for the engine etc is a 1996 328i Touring with fsh and 69'000 miles.

Image

The project car is a Touring bought off the forum 320i , needs tlc and plenty of work to make a track car.

Image

Collected most parts from a Safety Devices cage to steering wheel, wheels with 888's to a LSD and Willwood calipers front and rear.

The work started in the last 24 hrs.

Strip the E36, sell any parts I can and scrap the rest.

I would like to get everything ready over the winter before prep the shell and build the car.

Just a few hours of work and this is how I looks.

Image

More to follow as I collect parts and get the 328 stripped and prepared.

Any comments or guidance welcome.

Slowly making progress, the e36 has gone, what I had time to take off and what I thought was worth saving is on ebay.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E36-diff- ... 35ce22c52b

The engine loom etc has been removed along with the manifolds etc, the fun starts here.

Anyone on here use Willwood calipers, 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rear, am I best off using a servo and master cylinder (help or guidance on size would be good) or a pair of master cylinders with a bias bar?

Thanks.

Well small amounts of progress in the last few weeks, the last of the e36 saleable parts have gone, what's left will go to scrap. The engine is parted and will have all the new parts fitted over Christmas when off work. I hope to get my manfolds and and harness off Dan next week, I have just received my Gaz Golds and mounts (Christmas present to myself), new hubs and bearings etc are ordered along with most of the brake parts.Image

Well all work and no play makes Neil a dull boy, so much for my New Years resolution, first two weeks have been manic working everyday. Just been down to my dad's place borrowed the van and my brother helped me move the engine into my garage so if I get time at nights so I can just pop in and have a play.

Engine on the stand.

Image

Flipped upside down to allow the sump to be changed.

Image

Looks like the engine will clean up nicely too.

Image

Can you guys tell me in anything can be removed from this motor to simplify things and make more space, I will be removing the viscus fan, looked at the A/C pulley on the crank etc.

Can I remove some of the vacuum pipes and plastic tanks? So I need everything attached to the inlet manifold or can some things be simplified.

Would you guys use genuine gaskets etc?

Sump off tonight, 3 very stubborn bolts, never mind all off now. The engine looks in good order and oil pick up and sump are free from debris and sludge so hopefully a good sign. More cleaning and stripping to come, inlet manifold ready to come off, M50 will be fitted, are the standard M52 injectors the best ones to used.

Flywheel sorted.
Image

Image

Sorting caliper's out, new discs etc.

Image

Plenty of other parts cleaned, repaired painted and polished!!

Getting my supplies in for the next stage, stripping and sorting the shell.

I have now brought the car to my house from my dad's garage. Washed and ready to start.

ImageURL=http://s284.photobucket.com/user/neilio ... 8.jpg.html]Image[/URL]

Which I can never get in and started the strip down, I am pleasantly please by the condition of the shell so far, I do expect to find some work for the welder but so far not too bad. I have spend a few hours removing all the sound proofing and cleaning the floors.

Well a bit more progress between work, bought myself a new mig as my other one will not run off my household power supply, tested it with 1mm to 3mm and looks to give a nice controllable weld.

Image

The interior is now fully stripped and I have started to remove the brackets and unwanted items.

Image

Removed the seat belt brackets etc and found some rust but the shell is quite sound.

Image

Image

Next is the sun roof removal once it stops raining.

On with the jacking points and floors next!
More rusty parts and cutting out to follow, on a positive note the engine is done and the sun roof is removed and water tight!

It's going to be a long project.

Well seeing as its snowing again outside I thought I would try some garage work, I tried to modify the fuel tank as it was leaking anyway by cutting it in half and moving the swirl pot but my welding must not be up to the job as I have half a dozen pin holes where it wont hold air! might leave this one to the experts.

Then I turned my attentions to the rear beam and arms to bush them, much easier!!

More tomorrow if I finish work in decent time.

A bit of Sem sealer, zinc primer and stone chip to stop any rust until I finish and get the chance to paint both cills.
