Never driven an e30 convertible but have many other types of cars along with their roofed counterparts and the driving experience is incomparable due to the difference in rigidity. Same is true of 4 doors vs. 2 doors but to a much lesser extent.

Then you should have bought a 2 door, as you are clearly depraved :)

In reality there is no noticeable difference between a 2 and 4 door, I expect a touring would feel slightly more pendulum like but ive not owned one for long enough to compare, not that it would be any less rigid 8)

I think you meant, 4 doors are for people who actually have friends, because I wouldn't want to get out of the car to let someone in lol

Tourings are the work of the devil, 2 doors and 4 doors feel pretty similar to me when driving them and cabs rattle like a junkie in the cells at midnight.

What do you mean by "council estate" ?

I am considering between a 2 door and 4 door right now. right now there is a 4 door alpina white 318i for sale and i might pick that up.

so bottom line is that there is no noticeable difference in driving experience between 2 door and 4 door?

Is there a body size difference between a 4 door and 2 door? For example length and height difference? Are parts different?

They are the same, apart from the doors...... and the shame

A real mans 4 door is a touring, stiff shell, perfect 50:50 weight balance, better rust proofing(apart from the tailgate). Don't expect to be able to carry much though. Look cool too :D

Look cool? Ha!

Handy for those carting round heavy stuff, or have dogs or are tradesmen....hardly cool. I'd sooner put ropey tourings (of which there are many) in the council bracket than ropey 4 doors (of which there are much fewer)....

Plus better aero as well.
In answer to alexdejonghe's misguided post, the load capacity of a two door is 425 litres, while the touring is only 370 litres.

It's just a little easier to mount your sailing boat spars on the roof of a touring!

I have a touring and a cabbie...

Frankly,the best handling E30 I have owned was a £150 more door 320i SE,with a home -built 2.7 and new M-tec spec suspension...

Touring haters have no clue. The touring was the final evolution of the E30 line. It has better aero, better rust proofing, better balance and more progressive handling on the limit.
You two door owners are just trying to justify having bought the cheapest form of E30 :)

Touring may well be the final evolution of E30,but it was designed in a hurry and it shows!

Fuel pump access;
Touring,at least half an hour
Saloon/cabbie,five minutes and it's in your mitt

Rear damper and it's top mount;
At least an hour to swap on a touring
Saloon/cabbie,ten minutes max.

Then there's that channel at the base of the tailgate glass,just designed to trap rainwater running down the glass,no escape route untill the inner skin rusts through....

Need I go on? winkeye

Your right about the rusty tail gate

I have no idea on the fuel pump access.

But with regards to doing the rear dampers and top mounts. It does not take over 50 mins to remove the trim in the boot. 5 mins max and then rear top mount and damper removal is just as easy as any other e30. :)

2door & 4doors drive similar (the difference are so minimal you would need to get the scientist out to give you all the exact figures). Tourings a bit heavier but still great into the bends. As Convertibles do not have a roof I would not consider it for the track but as I am a poser its great for a summers day whenever we get one in the UK.

For the guys on here that think the people who drive convertibles are Gay, jealousy is a b*tch.

If your a sh*t driver none of this is going to make a difference.

on the road? the touring is the best. To hustle and is less snappy more progreeive than the saloons. Cabs are in a much lower flexing slob wagon like league. They are for posing anyway so it doesnt matter

I've owned and driven them all but difference is very small a saloon would handle like a touring if you drove with a dead bloke in the boot probably
