Hi Guys/Gals

My starter has started acting strange.

About half the time the car starts fine, but concerning the other half: When I start the engine, it starts fine, but when the key is returned to position the starter keeps on going. Like it sticks in position.

When I switch off the car the engine cuts out (guess it's because the fuel pump stops) but starter just keeps on going.

I have to tap the starter with the back of a hammer to get it to let go.

Anyone got any ideas what's going on?

Simple answer to this one - Your starter motor (or more precisely, the solenoid on top of it) , is bu**ered!
Get a new one, ASAP, and don't start the engine in the meantime.
Check the new one has the same number of teeth on the pinion gear.

Oh wait.

Do the motor and solenoid come seperately or do I have to buy it as a unit?
