Just blown a head light bulb and due to the very low cost of HID kits these days looking to upgrade.
any advice or recommendations on good kits and what power to go for would be great.
This is the sort of thing I've found so far on ebay........

No point in going above 3800k power, any more and they give off a blue tint that plod object to.

4.3k fitted to our cab, pure white light. I would not go any higher as all you do is reduce the light output from there on and change to blueish colour with reduced light level. To be honest most kits whatever you choose will be an improvemt on a standard halogen lamp!

i've just bought a set of these for my e36 after one of my ancient balasts gave out.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360708827341? ... 1439.l2649
balasts are slightly smaller than the older generation, about the size of a fag packet, and seem nicely made as 5 sides of the case are a single solid plastic moulding.
next day signed for delivery from within the uk too.
for £16 a set it's pointless buying normal bulbs.

Nice find, and that's a complete kit that should also work on my E30?harry_p wrote:i've just bought a set of these for my e36 after one of my ancient balasts gave out.

Yep, everything you'd need.
H1 bulbs, balasts, wiring. The only thing you would need to do is cut a 25mm hole in the back of the headlight cap, and a little heatshrink over the connectors inside the headlights wouldnt be a bad idea.
The balasts are even small enough to fit flat on the metal panel under the headlights and be completely hidden by the plastic covers.

Tutorial on how to do the conversion here: http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... Conversion
Your link is for H7 bulbs, as mentioned above you need H1 and I also prefer 4300k

one question do some people also upgrade the high beam to HID or is this not possible/pointless?

Swapping hi-beams to HIDs is pointless, but I have swapped my sidelights to LEDs, so that all the front lights have the same colour tone.
