finally getting round to sorting the niggly little things on my e30 318is
has anyone got a diagram of how the locking mech works in conjunction with the lock barrel or knows how to all connects?
basically the barrel comes out completely from the door.
Now i can see there is a hole at the end of the barrel which i presume a steel rod goes through, where does that connect to?
can post a pic if needed
cheers gents

Lock barrel is retained by a large C clip.
A lever on the rear of the barrel engages with a fork that connects and disconnects the lock from the outside handle and operates a solinoid that triggers the central locking.
Sounds like your barrel has bits missing?
Easiest fix is a 'lock repair kit' from your local dealer, about £20,comes with enough bits to build a new barrel to suit your key.
If you cannot find the C clip in the bottom of the door, this will also be easy to order at the same time.

thanks; having had another look at it tonight, i think you're right, i've got bits missing.
i think the end of the barrel should have some sort of spring loaded arm. i'll have to visit the dealers. Thanks
