When taking the diff off of my car it swung out when I removed the last bolt and was just left hanging on its rubber. The rubber then became detached from the diff.
Now obviously I can just put it back in when I put the diff back on the car but will it matter that its no longer properly attached? Or should I try to glue it back in place?
I'm not really sure????

If the diff. mount fell apart as you described, then it is well and truly goosed, and is overdue for replacement.

Yeah that rubber piece came out of the diff casing.......
I assumed that it was somehow attached originally, so in order to replace it would mean getting a new rear diff casing?

Or am I being stupid and it only pushes in anyway?

If you look at the pic, there's a steel ring around the rubber part of the bush. That's what holds the bush to the diff casing - it's a press-in fit. You'll have to find a way to get the old steel ring out, but that can be done with a hacksaw.

The steel ring will still be in the diff. rear cover, and will need to be removed before the new bush is fitted. Carefully sawing through the ring with a hacksaw will make it easy to push out, but keep the blade parallel with the ring, and don't mark the alloy.
It probably is possible to change the bush in situ, but it's definitely advisable to drain the diff. oil and remove the back cover, then do the job on a work bench.
Heating the cover it about 70 degrees in an oven and cooling the new bush in the freezer should make it easy to tap into place with a block of wood.
Make sure the housing for the bush on the cover is lying flat on a piece of wood before tapping the bush in. Alloy is easily broken.
