On my drive shaft, one of the metal clips holding the rubber boot around the CV joint has broken. This means that the boot can slip over the retaining "lump" on the shaft.

It's that curious BMW type that bends and folds into a hole, so not easily replaceable.

Is it alright to use a jubilee clip, or will that cause some sort of horrible imbalance in the shaft?

you can normaly buy the bladder style crimp clips from car parts stores cheep, i wouldn't have thought the small weight of a jubilee clip would cause to much imbalance but it may get caught on something, a desent zip tie may do till you can get it sorted.

Yeah, the trouble is that we don't have "parts stores" over here, you pretty much have to order online. So a few quid postage on a 10p clip seems a bit daft.

Still, I'll look at the areas and if both shafts are looking rusty I'll order a few packs in.

I used Nylon Electrical tie-wraps on my CV boots......long thin Nylon strip that you wrap tight around the boot, insert the end inside the one-way locking piece...pull tight and cut the plastic end off.

Been running like this for about 7 years now.

Use a cable tie like everyone else. All I've ever used for thirty years.
A metal jubilee clip can have a significant effect on the balance of a rotating shaft. The DIY way of balancing a propshaft is to clamp two jubilee clips around it and rotate them around the shaft and relative to each other until it ceases to vibrate.
