Right please dont bite my head off for this, I know its been written a hundred times but how do you go about a 5 stud swap? I am hopefully getting an e30 touring in the next week or so and I want to swap it to 5 stud as I have a lovely set of 15" pontiac trans am wheels crying out to go on it, iv read about the compact hubs being a good bet but being a 1.6/1.8 theyre only a smaller brake setup, are the z3 brakes the same as they did the 2.8 in them so they would have the better brake setup, am I right in thinking this or are they the same? Any help would be greatly appreciated, ollie

http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... Conversion

These are the only ways that will give you anything near acceptable suspension geometry. You could use E36 coilovers on the front if you want but you'll still need the hubs from an E36 M3 Evo/Z3M post 1996. And that means your 15" wheels definitely will not fit over the brakes.

You MIGHT be able to bolt E36 328i discs, calipers and carriers to the E36 M3 Evo hubs (I think these will fit inside your 15" wheels), but I'm not sure.

My 5-stud swap is written up here:

If its just to fit some wheels, buy some 4 to 5 stud adaptors. Will be much cheaper than converting the whole lot.

Nope, the caliper mounting holes are in a different place on m3s so they can't be swapped for standard e36 brakes.

wonder how far out the geo is if using evo arms, but normal e36 hubs? e36 316i had solid front disks, 318i and up had vented, all the same diameter all the way through 328i, and will fit behind most 15in wheels.
cheers,

The standard E36 hubs are a no go. Something to do with the kingpin angle when used with the Evo arms I think - it was tried in Germany, but gave undesirable handling at speed :?

I think you can use standard E36 struts, however you will still need the M3 Evo hub assemblies which means M3 brakes.

Well yes the 5 stud swap is mainly for the wheel choice, I have considered adapters but I will be using it for drifting and im not very keen on putting that much pressure through them so 5 stud is my preferred option, if 318 up has the same diameter disk does that mean that the 318 compact/z3 also have the same diameter? As the compact/z3 rear is a bolt on swap I believe, what work would need to go into the front if I was to go compact or is that the same as normal e36?
