Hi I have a 1989 BMW 318i M40 when I drive my car when cold it's cuts out and pops and bangs and backfires. Buts its okay when hot. I have checked the distributor and changed the spark plugs but still happens. Any other ideas of what it could be. Could it be ignition coil?

The normal 1st step is normally to check the blue temp sensor at the ecu plug...have a look in the wiki section at blue temp sensor (or something similar).
You will need a multimeter!
