hi all, doing a head gasket on a friends m20 2.5 at the weekend, i have the head bolt angle settings but i believe that there is a rough torque setting, as from pre experiance some bolts feel tighter than others when doing it all by angle's, any suggestions?

The angle torquing is the accurate one. There are variables that come into play when tightening a bolt by torque alone, that get more significant the tighter the bolt gets, such as friction under the bold head, friction on the threads, and the effects of any small areas of damage to the threads, which all give rise to the bolts ending up under different levels of tension.

Use the torx bolts and take a look at the BMW torque specs pdf (can be found on the web)

- torque 30 Nm
- torque angle 90 °
- torque angle 90 °

BMW state in the spec:
- No settling time needed.
- No warm-running time required.

This is different to the Wiki advice provided, but having followed this approach had no complaints since...
