So I've made my own new improved and larger degreasing tank for my new garage/workshop/man cave! Whoop etc! :P Up until now i've used comma hyperclean that i got from work when we refilled with fresh stuff. It's still good, but not good enough for shiny new machined components so was free :) Sadly it's all but run out now and we don't need any new stuff at work

So i decided to buy some new hyperclean.... £100+ for a 25L drum?!!!! Hell no! 8O

I've since heard that people use white spirits (aka mineral spirits in the states), paraffin, paraffin mixed with jizer, TFR... so many choices!

Now i'm going to be cleaning up diff casings and internals a lot so need to shift some serious crap. I also need to be able to degrease fully prior to paint. I guess the water based cleaners are pretty crap at shifting real thick/old grease? I can't really heat it and I've heard they need to be hot.

Any suggestions ladies and gents?

We've been using Wynn's engine degreaser on gearboxes and engines with good effect, but then again, we've been letting them soak and then power washing the crap out of them.

Soaking and power washing are both entirely possible! :-)

I've used TFR in a parts cleaner with good results, I used to buy it from a local cleaning place which was supposed to be diluted 100:1 but was more like 10:1 in the parts washer.

That used to cost £20 for 25l

And get nicked for contaminating the local drainage system with Oil and grease which is in fact illegal!

Which states, careless disposal of oil into drainage systesm, onto land or into watercourses in an offence.

Gareth. I bought 2 gallons of this and have found it very good at a reasonable cost.

Wrong link B7.

We've used Swarfega Jizer as well, although I can't remember what stuff we used it on. Think it came out alright though.

Everything seems to come out way better with pressure washing, regardless of what degreaser you use.

My dishwasher has been temporary home to a few cylinder heads etc over the years winkeye

TFR is horrible stuff, stings like a good un!

Heard good things about Jizer, especially when mixed with paraffin :P

Trev, the rock oil looks quite cheap compared to the others... worth a look :D
