hydro electric roof not working

help needed guys, iv got a e30 cab with a M52 lump now, heres the thing, it was a 325 switchable auto before and now i have a m52 manual, up until today iv had the hardtop on it but today when i removed the hard top the roof dont work my question is would there have been some kind of earthing that would have only raised or lowered the roof once i had the gears in park coz thats the only thing i can think of as it worked perfectly fine before the conversion any advice would be greatly appreciated.
