Hi guys, I am now more informed which should help you clever lot recommend a fix for my 325i Sport. My car cuts perfectly spot on 5k rpm as thought a rev limiter had been introduced. The ECU on it has been remanufactured by Lucas. The model number is 026 120 0074 and is a 24 pin chip. It also has LRZ691 "remanufactured ECU" by Lucas written on it. It is such a perfect cut that it must be electrical cutting either the ignition or fuel pump etc.

Did also notice the front pulley sender has been rubbing on the large timing wheel and has worn a few mm off it. Would this cause this or would the car not run at all if that was knackered??

Incidentally the car is an EFI, 2494cc with a K&N filter. The ECU has only 2 rows of connections ratrher than than 3 on an ECU I was loaned to try and eliminate it as a problem. Noted that has a 28 pins chip.???

Please help if you have ever expeienced this or just know the theory.

Many thanks,

Richard.

Thanks, cam looks and sounds OK as we have good power until the dreaded 5krpm point.

It might be the cam causing your problem. The 5k limit has been found out to be caused by a wrong ECU.

Just would like to say a big thanks to everyone who helped me out identifying a 5k rpm cut on my 325i. It was found to be the ECU, the wrong one had been installed for whatever reason. It now has an 073 (standard, am after a chip) an revs to the redline limiter without issue.

Many thanks again,

Richard

Just need a 24 pin chip and a lowering kit now with hard shocks. We took out on Sat evening after installing 2 Corbeau buckets and harnesses. Had so much fun, every corner sideways. Felt the back axle tramping a little, is that a common problem with them?

Is where the back axle bounces on the road. When I used to race thrundersaloons, (rwd) we had a similar problem. In the end we had to 5 link the axle to stop it happening.

Now we race front drive, so not a problem.

The old "Bouncing rear sub frame" problem.

That is caused by worn rear sub frame bush's.

Is there a poly replacement or better aluminium?

Yes, powerflex do a stiffer poly bush, a bit harsh on the ride quality and a bit more cabin noise from the road, but good and stiff. Solid bush's can be made, but are really only for a track car.

Cool thanks, are they easy to do?

We are using this beast for drifting/track daying etc. Drives pretty well just too sloppy and bouncey at the moment. Where would you recommend we get a decent set of shocks and lowering spring set from as cheaply as possbile.

Also worth mentioing, we fitted a suede 350mm OMP steering wheel and actually makes the 4 turns lock to lock very drivable. I had it in a few full lock needed slides and was manageable.
