So I just read some of the new MoT rules, and I have to say I'm a little worried. The parts in particular that I'm concerned about, are the steering lock, and the Catalytic converter, I asked about the Cat a little while back and some of the guys here mentioned that I needn't worry about it because of the age of my car, but is that still true? And about the steering lock, does it absolutely have to work? Cus mine just doesn't :S I'm also pretty sure that I read somewhere that some of these new rules, the steering lock one in particular only apply to newer cars, but according to the AA, it applies to all cars. Can anyone shed some light on these 2 issues for me please? Thanks in advance, Jay

Any car registered from Aug 92 will be tested with the 'cat' emissions test and is unlikely to pass without a cat fitted, unless your post-Aug 92 car has a pre-Aug 92 engine 'fitted' - just like my completely original, untouched (other than lack of cat) 93 318i touring has winkeye

If your car is older than Aug 92, you have no cat worries.
I can't help on the steering lock issue.

That's good, it's 1990 :) Thanks for that.

Sorry to be a pain about this, but I just read that this rule only applies to passenger cars post 2001. Are you absolutely 100% sure that it applies to all cars?

Only applies to cars registered after 1st September 2001

See the notes on the left hand side here http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_210.htm

Awkward to copy and paste the exact bit on a phone
cheers,
