What do you guys think is better?
Buying a Motorsport Convertible for atleast a minimum of £6k-£9k
Or do one from scratch?
Idea I have in my head is to buy a box standard 318 or whatever engine convertible facelift...
Mtec 2 Kit
Retrim
Eventually m52 conversion
Coilovers
Full exhaust system etc.
Problem with buying the motorsport is the reluctance to do anything to it like retrim or change the leather or anything because you'd want to keep it standard!
Blue with cream leather is a must!!
I'm thinking of doing it from scratch but not sure because atleast if the bodywork is done from scratch, can make sure theres no rust!
Start from scratch or buy something like a Motorsport?

You have answered your own question. A nice original motorsport will have a value. You will lose a lot of it by modding it. Buy a cab which needs work and build what you want.

As said above an original nonmolested motorsport cab will be worth strong money in good condition with good history.
A modified normal cab will have a value but a limited audience. Also getting some of the motorsport bits is near impossible like the bubble leather interior in very good condition.

If you're sensible about it and add an M-Tech kit and genuine BMW leather to a Mauritius blue convertible, I can't see the problem. Coilovers, exhausts etc will definitely affect the value..

Throw alot of money into modding a normal cabriolet (or any car for that matter), and your as good as throwing (most of) your money away....
Just some food for thought....
A nice Motorsport with reversable mods, like wheels and nothing drastic could be the way go, you'll end up with an appreciating classic and you get to scratch that urge for a blue cab with white leather.....

I would rather buy a decent cab for about 1k ish and spend 5k ish sorting it out properly, at least then you know the quality of the car at the end.
It will probably also last another 20 years or so before anything major needs to be done again (if loved and cared for of course).

Go molest a standard convertible. Leave all the motorsports as standard. We should be helping to increase their value, not reducing it.
