I have 1984 E30 320i.
Starts from cold for the first time, but shuts immediately. If I rev it up for a while and warms up it works fine.
I read its something to do with idle control valve? Where is it located and is it easy and not expensive solution?
320i When cold starts then cuts off. When warm runs fine

Because of the age of your car, you've got a system called Jetronic which is pretty primitive with lots of potential for problems.
On these older beasts, the Air slide valve is particularly troublesome:

but it's worth reading the whole Jetronic page so you know what's going on there. Those early engines had some really odd solutions to cold-starting enrichment.
