does anyone know what the funnel shaped part is in the air box of a E30 325 air box. it can be unbolted and i wondered what difference removing it may make

going to fit a k and n panel filter with a viper2 chip.

thanks

It's a rampipe for the intake and helps bottom end torque.

I experimented with mine and found a slight loss of performance without it. I thought it looked too close to the airbox wall for good airflow but it does work.

I've ended up with the standard airbox/rampipe and a K&N panel filter after trying all sorts of different combinations.

Cheers,

Just converted back to the proper airbox, from a $hitty K&N cone... Haven't got that bit though so I'll be down the scrappies soon I expect!
