Hi, went to have a look at a 325 touring today. It had a lot of water in the storage compartment on the drivers side. I'm sure this is a common problem, but how does the water get in? It's also got damp carpets on the drivers side footwells, front and back. The car looks pretty good body work wise? Drives ok, pretty soggy ride though. I'm not sure if I sure go for it or not!?
Cheers, Max

Sounds like a standard tired E30 :(

Damp carpets is NOT a good sign, soggy ride will almost certainly mean it needs a full suspension refresh which isnt cheap or quick to do.

Water can get into the rear storage compartments from worn rear light seals, boot seal, or more likely it has a hole in the inner arch under the trim which is letting water in - very common as the fuel filler neck holds mud against the inner arch and rots it through.

If its cheap and you can weld and are handy with a spanner it might be worth a punt

Mine leaks on both sides. I'm pretty sure the passenger side is because of the aerial and I think the drivers side is because it parks facing downhill, and the water sits in the corner of the gutter around the boot and seeps in.

Thanks for the replies guys. The car is on ebay. It's in Bristol. The guy said he'd take £600 cash. It's worth it just for the engine and wheels.
It doesn't look like its rotten too bad anywhere that I could see. But you never know I guess. I couldn't get hold of the guy last night, and I know someone else was going to look at it, so maybe it's gone.
I was thinking at the very least, I could use it for a few months, then swap the engine into my E21!?
