Well my 320 greeted me this new year with electrical gremlins. Pehaps it's protesting after been chucked out from underneath the carport

Anyway the lamps work as normal when the ignition is off on all doors.

When you get in and close the door/s the interior lamps work ok as well.

The problem comes when you open any door again after the ignition is on. The interior lamps won't go off again at all unless physically turned off on each lamp. :? :? :? :? or the ignition is switched off.

My first thought is an earth problem but where???

Any help appreciated please.
TIA

Do you have the optional interior light delay module fitted? This is located behind the driver's side kick/speaker panel. If the relay is sticking, this would cause the problem you mention.

Also probably worth spraying WD40 in the door switches, as they may be sticking.

Hi Speedtouch

No the vehicle is not fitted with the light delay and the switches all seem to work OK when tested.
I will try WD behind each one.

the only other one to check is the looms as they pass through the doors from the bulkhead, drivers door first

I had a similar issue and it was through an earth issue on wiring in door looms

If you don't have a delay module, I can't think of any possible conditions that would produce the symptoms you describe. There's absolutely no connection between the ignition switch and the interior lights in the standard wiring.

Hi Brian

that was my initial thought - what could possibly cause the link and I drew a blank - hence my quest to seek advice from the experts.

Have you parked it next to the Fiat? In which case, it could be a bad case of Italian electrics syndrome, which is highly contagious! Or perhaps you were just hungover, and the lights appeared to stay on long after you had switched them off?

Thanks Fred et all

The problem went away all by itself. I never did sort out where the electrical gremlins were hidden.

The problem perisited about a month and all I did was make sure that I followed a procedure so as the lights were off.
Then I tried after a month and the problem was gone. :?

The only difference in conditions etc was that after a month it was back to living under a carport. Before that it had to spend its life parked open to the elements. Once back under the carport all problems disappeared. Maybe the damp got to it somewhere whilst outside.

It does sound a similar problem to mine. although mine worked perfectly with the iginition off. Therefore mine was only getting a feed when the ign was on.

having read your thread and the reply, have you tried putting some thick cardboard on the door where the switch strikes to see if it is just the door not touching the switch enough? Just use blutac or something like to hold the card long enough.
