hi i have a 1986 325i and want to put a chip from the e30 zone shop on it. I dont know if the ecu has been changed to the 28 pin type or if it still has its original 24pin. What are the part numbers for the ecu so i can check please. Thanks if anyone can help

I'm pretty sure all of the motronic ecus have 28pin.
I don't know what chip is in the jetronic system fitted to the earlyest 325s but if that's what you do have then they can't be chipped.
I'm sure somebody will be along soon to confirm or deny.

They seem to be flogging some sort of chip for a pre 87 car on the zone shop. I also have a jetronic 325i, which some people will try and tell you doesn't exist, will be interesting to hear what results you get if you do find something.

073 ecu were all built with 24 pin Eprom sockets, most will have been replaced or repaired by now and been modded to accept a 28 pin eprom, the only way to check is open the cover and count the pins on the PCB, if you have a 24 pin it can be modded to accept the 28 pin eprom by adding 4 extra pins in the PCB, the holes are there for this already so its not a major issue
24 pin eproms of the correct type have not been available since the mid 80s, hence the 28 pin "upgrade"
