Depends what you are trying to achieve I think. I have H&R adjustables on my Road car but all other suspension parts are new/replaced/upgraded to suit and the ride and handling are excellent.

Changing the ARB's goes hand-in-hand with renewing the whole lot in my opinion

There is a list of the options in the wiki

How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

im also looking to get new suspension, got another thread on here about that, and so far the b12 kit has been recommended...

tbh wanted to see if anyone on here has used the racing dynamics or the suspension techniques, and what they think of them....

I went with eibach rollbars thinking that they'd match the eibach springs in the B12 kit. I have no idea whether they are better or worse than HnR but they do the job for me :)

In terms of difference, just buy any of them, then take your car to a racing track, do about 500 laps until you know the course intimately, then replace the ARB for one that's 1mm thicker or thinner. See if it shaves 0.01 seconds off your lap time.

For all other intents and purposes, they're all as good as each other.

I had H&R roll bars on my old car, and racing dynamics ones on my current car. I honestly could not say if either where better than the other. The VAC ones do look like a nice bit of kit though!!

If your running wide/larger wheels than standard, beware the H&R bars are shapped different to standard bars (stick out on the corners) and can just foul the inside edge of your rim on full lock. Not sure if the others are the same.

Almost all after market front ARB's will touch the inside of the front wheels, I made a very simple lightweight and non destructive spacer which slips on the rack gear it self.

This is a 20mm spacer on a E46 rack, these can be produced for E30 and E36 racks.

With regards to which set? Well from the choices above it would have to be the H&R set, they have a tougher finish and the kit has a thicker rear bar.

Below is a comparison with a custom rear 24mm bar against a 18mm H&R that came off.

Image

As a guide a 19mm ARB is 49% stiffer than the same ARB in 18mm and a 24mm ARB is 346% stiffer than an 18mm ARB. On a well configured car going from 18mm to 19mm is noticeable.

I tried a 20mm rack spacer kit(46 rack fitted) but it seemed to affect the lock (car not running) so i cut the spacers in half to make them 10mm. At the moment they are off the car as i found that the edge of the tyre touches only when front of car is jacked up, on the ground it clears. No doubt ill find out if i need the 10mm spacers once it fires up and i get some power assisted steering.

Ireland Engineering do some hefty kits, but price gets a high when you consider import fees.

Yes it does affect over all lock as you are effectively limiting the travel of the rack gear. The problem you may face is when the MOT tester is checking for clearance with the car jacked up, most will focus on this especially if they notice any witness marks on the ARB it self.

Ive had advisories before for the tyre touching ARB on full lock, depends how much of an arse the tester is at the end of the day

A jubilee clip around the end of the rack makes a quick and easily installed lock stop!
