speedo stopped workig

hi guys, has anyone had this problem !!. my speedo has been playing up for a while, ie it worked when it felt like it, now its given up all together. ive checked the fuses and they seem ok, just trying to get some input before i rip it out and stamp on it!! . many thanks in advance.

check the wiring from the sensor in the diff, they usually break at the sensor or where the wiring is cable tied to the body under the car.
