Hi I have had some noises coming from the rear of my car for a while now. It's a rotational high pitch grinding sound. Almost (if you can imagine) a heat shield rubbing on a wheel, if that makes sense. I recently changed the diff thinking it was that, it is quieter but I thinking maybe this new diff is a bit knackered too. I was just trying to think if it could be anything else. If I listen close its like its coming from the drivers rear brakes, but I can't thinking of anything il else it could be. Someone mentioned that some bmws have drums aswell as disks on the rear, will I? if so could be the shoes? Also I have just started getting a whining noise as I gather speed up from about 40 to 60 any ideas on what this could be? Thanks

try driving along and pulling the handbrake up 1 or 2 clicks and see if that stops it, could be the handbrake shoes,
