I was going to use a 325 2dr cable but have found out it's to short for the touring - cable runs a different path.

Does anyone know what size cable I should use, I measure the old one approx 10mm dia on the core, which is about 000AWG or 85CSA. Anyone know if this is right as it's hard to measure because of the clamp and sheathing.

I know the E36 one is longer but does anyone know by how much? Figure new cable might be better than an old one.

When wiring batteries into my boat,my local auto electrical supplier sold me 'welder wire',this was a multi strand cable with an outer diameter of around 10/12mm.He was happy to crimp suitable rings onto each end for me.I have since used similar cable to beef up engine/body earths on my E30's,so if you can work out the length that you need, this is what you should be looking for...it's very flexible,so will need suitable support.

10/12mm diameter? I was also shown welder wire when I was looking for cable to wire in the starter but it was a lighter gauge than the battery cable. It will be ran along the inner sill and tied where possible, should be ok I imagine.

I've been told an E36/E39 cable has different fittings on the end and is also heavier.

Terminal wise you need an 8mm ring, check with your supplier to ensure that it will take the starter current over the length envisaged,my boat had an outboard with a recoil starter!

But the current boat with a little inboard diesel has similar cabling, but over much shorter distances than you are thinking about. If your local scrappie can supply an E36/39 cable, you just need to find some-one who can crimp a suitable terminal on?

True, I have a guy who can get me a e39 one. He also recons I might be able to de-solder the end on the e30 one and solder it onto the e39 cable.

Dont think about soldering the cables, you will make a right mess.
The E36 cable is the one you want, I have one fitted to my chromie and just about managed to find space for it all, once you have priced up new cable of the same spec I guarantee you will be on the hunt for an E36 cable :)

With a 6 pot E36 compact bracket the E36 terminal box bolts up to the bulkhead nice

How much longer is the E36 one does anyone know (or the compact one)? The 325 one is to short for the touring.
